FREQUENTLY ASKED STAFF QUESTIONS

Where can I get a staff application?
Staff applications are NOT available online. Please contact us at the camp office at 416.449.7746 or staff@bvg.on.ca to set up an interview. You will fill out an application at the camp office when you arrive for your scheduled interview.

Are there any days where staff are required to stay late?
All staff are required to stay late for staff meetings, family nights and overnights.

What is pre-camp training?
All staff must attend a multi-day orientation, which takes place during the week prior to the start of camp. Pre-camp training provides an opportunity for staff members to get acquainted with one another; learn the camp philosophy; get to know the campsite and facilities; to learn camp policies, procedures, and leadership skills; learn objectives, programs and specific jobs; and to become part a working team.
We want you to feel confident that you have learned everything you need to ensure that you have a fabulous and successful summer.

How do you determine the amount of compensation? When do we get paid?
Compensation for the entire 8 weeks (39 days) is based on the age of the staff member. Staff are paid at the end of the camp season, unless alternate arrangements are made with the Director.

What about absences?
There are only 39 days of camp, so every day really counts! We expect our staff to attend each and every day of camp. The only acceptable excuse is illness. Any other obligations that interfere with your ability to attend camp must be discussed with the Director.

What do I wear every day?
You are here as an active participant in the camp program and we want you to be comfortable, but we do have a dress code. Every staff member is required to wear a staff shirt at all times. Staff are provided with one t-shirt and may purchase additional shirts. To protect yourself from the harmful UV rays, staff are encouraged to wear a long-sleeved shirt under their staff t-shirt. It is also recommended that staff wear a sun hat and running shoes. Bearing in mind that children emulate their elders and that we should set good examples, staff are expected to dress, groom and conduct themselves accordingly.

What are the dates and hours of camp?
The camp season begins the first week of July and runs for 8 weeks. We require a commitment from staff for the full camp season. There are only 39 days of camp! The regular camp day for campers is from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. Staff are required to arrive at camp by 8:15 a.m., unless they are on one of our buses, and we usually dismiss at 4:30 p.m. Staff who go home on camp buses will leave with the campers at 4:00 p.m.
